Through December: Tim Duffy Sculptures

Tim Duffy arrived in Boulder in the Fall of 1971 and never looked back. Sculpting in wax, he aligned with backyard foundries in Texas and Colorado and cast the bronze pieces. The library exhibit is primarily work created in campgrounds.

Duffy has branched out into three disciplines: design for motion pictures, writing for a jazz ensemble and bronze work. He continues to live and create in Boulder and his work is found in private collections in the United States and Europe.

November 3 - December 31: Photographs by Lyle Rosbotham

Artist's Statement

This is a group of photographs of lotus taken at the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in the District of Columbia over the course of ten years while I lived nearby.

The lotus plant has been revered by many cultures over many generations. I found it growing profusely in the gardens and became intrigued with photographing it in all states of growth and decay and in the context of the life around it. Every visit there had its visual rewards, whatever the time of year. It always felt like a lush oasis surrounded by grimy urban reality.

All the images were shot on 35mm slide film, scanned, and printed digitally.

December Display: Sundrop Ceramics, artist Shanti Gillis

I love making pottery and with every unique piece I invest a lot of time (love), so every time someone uses it that love is passed on. Everyday objects can and in my opinion should be beautiful.

December: Whittier Neighborhood

With its roots reaching back to Boulder's founding in 1859, Whittier is one of the city's oldest neighborhoods. First put on the map when a group of early settlers formed the Boulder City Town Company and divided the land along Boulder Creek into 4,004 lots, the area quickly developed into a desirable residential section. The construction of several fine homes along Pine Street by some of the city's most prominent citizens gave Whittier an early sense of place, and the establishment of Whittier School, then called Pine Street School, created a focal point which attracted new residents. Carnegie Branch Library for Local History showcases the development of the Whittier neighborhood through photographs and documents during the month of December.
