Wireless Internet Access

The Library offers free wireless internet access (Wi-Fi) inside all our locations during regular operating hours. Anyone with a wireless network connection in their laptop or handheld device can access the Internet for free.

What you need to connect

  • A computer, pocket PC or personal digital assistant (PDA) with a wireless networking card. Many modern devices are Wi-Fi capable. If yours is not, an 802.11b or 802.11g card or a USB adapter can be purchased from electronics stores starting at less than $40. Apple Airport is also compatible.
  • Any web browser
  • Dual-band phones, which work off standard signals as well as Wi-Fi, can also use the system.

How to connect

  • When in range, you will be able to select our network, ‘BPL’, using your computers Wi-Fi interface. There is no password requirement.
  • Once you’ve connected, launch your Web browser and carefully read and accept the terms of use on the login page.

Print via Wi-Fi

  • You can print documents from your computer to the Library’s printers using your wireless connection.  Get started!
  • The cost for printouts is the same as those printed from a Library computer.
  • You can pick up your printout at any of the library's public print stations. You'll need the User Identification name you entered when you sent your print job (not your library card number).

Limitations and Disclaimers

  • The Library's wireless network is not secure. Information sent from or to your laptop can be captured by anyone else with a wireless device and the appropriate software, within three hundred feet.
  • Library staff is not able to provide technical assistance and no guarantee can be provided that you will be able to make a wireless connection or that you will be able to access all online resources via that connection.
  • The Library assumes no responsibility for the safety of equipment or for laptop configurations, security, or data files resulting from connection to the Library's network.
